This product was developed to
document a repeatable, measurable, and tailorable software engineering process.
The guidebook contains five volumes: Introduction, Management, Development,
Configuration Management, and Process Improvement. Each volume contains a process
that defines how the activities performed under that discipline will interact. All
activities in the guidebook have a corresponding, Integration Definition for Function
Modeling (IDEF0), pictorial representation that can be used to navigate through the
individual volumes and between the volumes. There are several appendices: an appendix
which contains all the forms referenced in the guidebook, such as the Software
Trouble Report and Change Request forms; an appendix which relates software tools to
the activities in which they may be used; a glossary of terms,, a bibliography,
etc. The objective of the guidebook is to address all the Key Process Areas (KPAs)
of the Software Engineering Institutes Capability Maturity Model (CMM) in
levels 2 and 3 and to ensure the process is measurable as a basis for process
improvement. In addition the guidebook makes heavy use of Military Standard
Software Development and Documentation, MIL-STD-498. For more information on
the guidebook, call Pat Schuler, at 864-6732 or send e-mail to
