| StarTeam is a commercial suite of Software Configuration Management tools that provide version control, visual differencing, defect tracking with process management, project status reports and charts, threaded conversation, build and milestone management, and audit logs. It allows the user to store everything related to the
product in one place using just one application. In addition, the information is automatically filtered based on the subproject or file you select. Visual Diff (a tool in StarTeam) compares two text files and color codes the differences between them. The suite consists of three major components: StarTeam Workstation (for use by
individual developers on their PCs), StarTeam Server (for coordination among multiple developers), and StarTeam Web Connect (which provides project information over the Web). StarTeam Server works in conjunction with StarTeam Workstation. With StarTeam Server, team members can collaborate on all important project resources
over a local area network, wide area network, intranet or the internet. StarTeam Web Connect is a dedicated server that allows users with standard web browsers to access StarTeam project information over a TCP/IP network. Web Connect reads project information from a central project repository and generates Web pages to be viewed
by web browsers. You can create views of the project information for users who have different needs. |
