Per NPR 2200.2 Requirements for Documentation, Approval and Dissemination of Scientific and Technical Information, authors cannot use a NASA publication to release NASA software or to transfer technology in the form of code. However, this does not preclude the inclusion of code or code-like text in a publication if that code does not effect a software release or a technology transfer. Branch heads, as both engineering technical authorities and approvers of scientific and technical information (STI) in STRIVES, can review code included in a publication and provide justification in a STRIVES comment that the code does not release NASA software or transfer NASA technology. The document below provides detailed background and guidance for authors and branch heads on inclusion of code in NASA publications.
